Camila Valenzuela
I am an immigrant from Chile, with ancestral ties to the Mapuche people of Chile and Argentina.
I am a mother of two beautiful children, whom I birthed vaginally and breastfed for 3 years each. I had a doula for each of those births. This led me pursue a career in Lactation. Currently, I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and I've been a Peer Breastfeeding Counselor for the last 7 years, and Birth Doula for 6 years. Through my experience with families,
I have become deeply passionate about advocating for informed consent and supporting families where they are, whether it is prenatal or postnatal, to help them achieve their lactation goals while helping reduce barriers.
Breastfeeding/chest-feeding is important to me for many reasons; one of them is that it is our ancestral right to provide milk for our babies. It is an extension of our bodies, nourishing a small human in our womb and outside of our womb. The connection created while breastfeeding/chest-feeding will last a lifetime and I want to help more people create that bond.
I have witnessed over and over, the difference it makes when you have support during labor, delivery and the first few weeks of postpartum. It is a privilege to support families during such a sacred time in their lives. I am grateful everyday to have found work that I am passionate about.
